August 2013 schedule for events and gatherings

The mission of La Leche League, USA is to help mothers to breastfeed through mother-to-mother support, encouragement, information, and education, and to promote a better understanding of breastfeeding as an important element in the healthy development of the baby and mother.

August is always a month for celebrating breastfeeding!

The first week in August is World Breastfeeding Week!

Our regular series meetings in Charleston are the 1st and 3rd Friday and the 3rd Tuesday.


FIRST FRIDAY – Mount Pleasant Old Village

August 2, 2013, 10:15 am to 11:30 am
We usually meet at St Andrew's Church however this Friday they have an event scheduled.
** Our venue has changed to the Mt. Pleasant Library, due to remodeling. We will meet in the meeting room to the right of the bathrooms. 1133  Mathis Ferry Rd. **

Our AUGUST FAMILY FUN NIGHT is going to be a beach event.
Our June and July pool family nights were open to aLLL and our August event is  Member's Only. This is our way of saying thank you to our current & new members for supporting and sustaining La Leche League of Charleston!  Please join us and if you are not a member yet, scroll to the side bar on the right and join now!  There will be opportunity to sign up that night as well! 

This will be a family beach night.  Bring anything you like to have with you on the beach including dinner or snacks.  
We will meet on Sullivan's Island August 24, 2013, at 5:00 pm.  This is a great time of day because low tide will be 5:07 pm that night and sunset will be just before 8 pm!  Lots of tidal pools for the littles and room to run around.  The exact Station will be posted in our events on FB.  https://www.facebook.com/groups/lllcharleston/

We really do appreciate your support and encouragement with membership.  The tax deductible contribution through your LOCAL GROUP helps sustain La Leche League of Charleston and LLL in South Carolina as a whole.  

We plan on having more Members events soon, including Enrichment meetings in addition to our regular series meetings, so watch for those be announced in upcoming blog posts!

Big Latch-On 2013 August 3 at 10:30

Latch on at 10:30 am.


Come and join us for this FREE event in celebration of World Breastfeeding Week!
This is a fun event for the entire family.
At the Big Latch On  groups of breastfeeding women come together to set a world record for the most moms breastfeeding at the same time around the globe!  
The Charleston event is in our 3rd year and each year our numbers grow.  
Come help us set a new record!  
Our first event at around 30 mom/baby dyads and our 2nd event had over 60 mom/baby dyads and lots of dads and other children as well! This year we are so excited to find out who and how many attend!

We will be in the auditorium. Use the stairs or elevator to come upstairs from garage or front entrance. The auditorium is located down the hallway behind the front desk on the left. All are welcome. Please stay and socialize after the event.

There is plenty of parking below the library, free for first hour and a dollar an hour there after. You will pay at front desk, and receive a parking garage code to exit.

We are currently looking for volunteers to help with counting and/or to be witness, so even if you are finished breastfeeding and want to help please let us know!

South Carolina Law
S.C. Code Ann. § 63-5-40 (2005) provides that a woman may breastfeed her child in any location where the mother is authorized to be and that the act of breastfeeding is not considered indecent exposure. (2008 HB 4747)
S.C. Code Ann. §63-5-40 reads:
(A) A woman may breastfeed her child in any location where the mother and her child are authorized to be.
(B) Breastfeeding a child in a location where the mother is authorized to be is not considered indecent exposure.
